The “C³ – Carbon Concrete Composite” project is currently the biggest research project of the German construction industry. Since 2014, a consortium of over 140 partners have been researching and developing the composite material carbon concrete in 61 joint projects and 300 individual projects. This material has been increasingly used in practice since 2006.

Areas of application for carbon concrete were defined and corresponding design principles were derived in the B3 basic project in which MFPA Leipzig GmbH was involved as a research partner. Furthermore, adequate dimensioning, safety concepts and testing recommendations were drawn up for assessing carbon concrete material and its load-bearing capacity.

MFPA Leipzig GmbH was also involved in the V1.2 project “Verification and test concepts for standards and approvals” for creating recognised rules that allow for easy compliance with construction law provisions. Comprehensive tests concerning the creep behaviour of carbon concrete and the fatigue behaviour of carbon concrete, carbon reinforcement mesh and carbon rods were performed at MFPA Leipzig GmbH as part of the V2.1 project “Creep behaviour of carbon reinforced concrete”. We also contributed to project V2.3 “Fire behaviour of carbon reinforced concrete” that had the goal of characterising carbon concrete under high-temperature and exposure to fire and to draw up parameters for fire protection design and make these available.
