Smoke-tightness of smoke barriers

We perform tests at our test centre in accordance with EN 1634¬3 in order to determine the smoke-tightness and functional capacity of your smoke barriers.

The leakage rate Qspec(20) or Qspec(200) is determined in [m³/h] in accordance with EN 1634-3:2004 section 10.2. From this it is possible to determine and assess the leakage of cold and hot smoke from one side of the barrier to the other under specified test conditions.

We test, study and assess the smoke protection door or window structure, which you have installed into a test frame, in various load situations. Find out more here. 

The test reports can serve as proof for national use, in accordance with the German Building Regulation List (Bauregelliste, BRL), the German Model Building Code (Musterbauordnung, MBO) or within the context of the approval procedure of the German Institute for Structural Engineering (Deutsches Institut für Bautechnik, DIBt), as well as for the European certification of your smoke barriers (doors, windows, partitions).

After 40 years of use, the plan is for the swimming pool building to be used for a further 30 years. It therefore needed to be brought up to the appropriate technical standard. This requires the construction of the pool building to allow for sufficiently long-term and safe use. 

From the top edge of the floor, the building is made entirely of prefabricated parts. The main load-bearing elements are the prestressed cable suspension shell, the edge beams, trestles and the foundations. Together these form a load-bearing system; the type and condition of the bonding elements are decisive factors in its effectiveness.

In order to identify any damage or defects in the bonding elements, load tests were conducted on the roof construction. Since the roof construction is curved in shape, the loads could not be generated in the conventional manner. Specially manufactured hoses that adapted to the shape of the roof were filled with water. This represented a major challenge for our team, for which we found an excellent solution.

So-called “natural fire models” in accordance with DIN EN 1991-1-2 serve to determine the critical temperature stress for a component, including temperature distribution. The calculation is usually carried out on the basis of engineering methods for fire protection or using CFD simulations. The use of natural fire models is an option for verifying structural fire protection both in new builds and in existing buildings that are undergoing a change of use. The temperature stress in the event of a fire can also be determined for infrastructure projects, which are subject to particular requirements.

Round-robin tests for sound insulation testing bodies at MFPA Leipzig GmbH

The German Association of Materials Testing Institutions (VMPA) has been successfully organising comparative tests for sound insulation testing bodies for years, and since 2013 these have had a new format as a 2-day measuring campaign with five test centres measuring in parallel. The tests are mandatory for VMPA-recognised sound insulation testing bodies.

Since 2016, the comparative measurements for impact noise, airborne noise and installation noise have been conducted on the premises with technical support from MFPA Leipzig GmbH. The specialist evaluation is carried out jointly with the National Metrology Institute of Germany (Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt, PTB) and the German Acoustical Society (DEGA).

In so doing, we also help you move toward the CE marking of your fibre-cement flat sheets and fire-protection coatings, claddings, boards or mats.
